The best things in life certainly aren’t free if you’re a gamer, and so it looks like the Wii U will set players back a pretty penny.
Speaking to The Nikkei Japanese newspaper (picked up by Bloomberg), Nintendo boss Satoru Iwata confirmed that the price of the system will “likely” be over ¥20,000. That translates to around $250 and £150, though European prices are usually bumped up to similar figures. We can see it being priced a fair bit higher too; that iPad-like controller can’t come cheap.
To compare, the Wii went on sale for $250/£170. It’s low price was key to its success, so raising the cost is a big risk for Ninty; they could be putting their entire casual audience at risk.
