Nintendo holding back Wii U specs, Colonial Marines not confirmed

Another day, another update on the Wii U version of Aliens: Colonial Marines. Following Nintendo’s inclusion of the title in a demo reel during its E3 briefing, publisher Sega later saying the it’s in the ‘consideration and prototyping‘ phase only, and then developer Gearbox head Randy Pitchford seemingly confirming the version, we’re back to Sega’s official line.

Aliens: Colonial Marines on Wii U is not a definite,” said Gearbox man Brian Cozzens at E3. “It’s just something we’re looking into.”

On-hand Sega PR clarified: “It’s been announced in the Nintendo conference and it’s been prototyped for it, so the engine is working on it. But, because Nintendo hasn’t given all the specs out and knowing Nintendo, plenty of surprises are still coming; it’s not slated for release.

“So, it’s something Gearbox is looking at, with what they can do with the machine. Obviously, there is an clear use for it that I’m sure everyone can think of, but we’ll see. It’s kind of like one of those awesome things that even Nintendo is probably prototyping their Wii U.”

That’s that then. Best count on a PC, 360 and PS3 releases only for now.

The game’s out in ‘spring 2012’.
