Andriasang has quoted a sales report in Japanese gaming mag Enterbrain as saying that the 3DS now has reached a million customers in Japan.
The handheld console took 13 weeks to reach this number. In comparison, its predecessor only took four weeks to manage the same. It has also been overtaken by Sony’s PSP as the best-selling console in April and May.
Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has already been commenting on the 3DS’ lower-than-expected sales performance by pointing to the fact that people needed time with the device to appreciate the 3D display properly.
With Sony’s Vita launch looming on the horizon with an attractive price point, it might be time to start speculating on a 3DS price drop in the not-too-distant future.
