Rumors of Mass Effect 3 including some kind of multiplayer have been going on now for some time, most recently spoken of at E3. However, nothing has been set in stone yet, but when people talk, journalists/bloggers write. The latest on whether or not BioWare’s upcoming action RPG will feature online play comes from “sources” saying that Mass Effect 3 will include a 4-player co-op Horde-like mode, which will be “standalone” and feature “competitive elements.”
While some sources state the aforementioned, others report the multiplayer to include only “a handful” of “original missions made for online,” developed to be “played and played again” by BioWare Montreal, apparently.
“Mainstream penetration is a major goal for Mass Effect 3 and those high up feel online co-op is the answer they’re looking for,” said the latter of sources. “EA’s keen to push the multiplayer side of the game to help spread word of mouth – so it’s not just going to rehash stuff from the campaign. It’s going all out.”
Mass Effect 3 is set for a March 2012 release on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.
