Will there be next-gen consoles soon? The question has been buzzing around the industry since the Wii U reveal. Crysis developer Crytek was rumored to be developing for new consoles, something they later debunked.
Now Just Cause 2 developer Avalanche has added their voices to the mix, claiming in an interview with EDGE to be “pretty sure” that new hardware will be here by 2014.
“We obviously talk to everybody, and everybody talks to us,” says managing director of Avalanche New York David Grijns. “We have some intelligence to go on that, by early 2014, we’re pretty sure there’ll be at least one next-generation console on the market.”
This because the newly opened New York studio announced its first title to be an triple-A game for next-gen platforms in 2014.
“When we say ‘next-gen’ in the press release, it’s really a reference to what we think the market will look like then,” he added. “Anyone who says they know what the market is going to look like three years from now is just blowing smoke. Whatever happens, we feel very confident that we’ll be ready for it.”
