Turbine hiring for “unannounced” console MMO

Lord of the Rings Online and Dungeons & Dragons Online developer Turbine is seeking a software engineer for an “unannounced online console project” according to a job listing by parent company Warner Bros. Turbine is no stranger to online-enabled games and its skilled capabilities of crafting an MMO are not unheard of, but there’s no denying the developer is venturing into a somewhat uncharted territory; massively multiplayer online games reign on PC, not so much on consoles, although there are a few examples out there.

Project Hendrix,” as it’s being codenamed for the moment, will presumably be heading for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 if the job listing is to go by. “Experience with existing modern game engines supported by the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3,” it reads. Further, according to Turbine employee Josh Phelan’s CV, the game is also to be developed for PC in conjunction with the aforementioned.

Turbine had begun work on a console-based MMO back in 2009, which unfortunately never saw the light of day as it was reportedly cancelled back in August 2010. Let’s hope “Hendrix” makes it off the drawing board.
