If you, right now, go to the Games for Windows home page, you’ll be greeted with a big banner that reads “Games for Windows Marketplace is moving to xbox.com.” The description below it will read “Soon you can get all of your gaming needs in one place. It’s convenient, it’s easy, and it’s a whole lot of great games!” And that’s pretty much all they have to say on the matter for now.
The decision makes sense, but one has to wonder if there is anything more to it than ease of access. Perhaps we will see Microsoft start to make a stronger push on the PC platform now that its market is closer tied to the Xbox brand? Maybe we’ll see purchases that work on both platforms like Steam with its Mac titles, or maybe cross platform gaming will come back? Probably wishful thinking, but hey, crazier things have happened.
