Sony is looking to implement a system similar to EA’s Online Pass, the latest rumors have it.
An image of a Resistance 3 console bundle, discovered by German games forum Konsolentreff (via), stamped with “PSN Pass” leads to the speculation. Details are lacking, though the bundle’s box also reads: “Network features only available in countries that have PlayStation Store,” which tells us absolutely nothing sadly.
Chances are Sony could be taking the road paved by EA, THQ and most recently Warner Bros. in an effort to minimize used games sales. The companies named use their ‘passes’ to give access to their games’ online features via codes that can be found inside new copies of their games.
Those buying used copies will have to purchase the code separately in order to, for example, play multiplayer games.
