There have been no director nor actors announcements that we know of, so no, the actual Mass Effect movie or any footage of it will not be making an appearance at this year’s Comic-Con event in San Diego. Unless it’s all CG.
Scheduled to do so, however, are Hollywood studio Legendary Pictures (for the first time), writer Mark Protosevich and Mass Effect executive producer Casey Hudson of BioWare, both of whom are holding a panel to discuss the film. Reportedly, Protosevich is “adapting the game to film,” which, if taken literally, means the movie will replicate the game rather than expand on the universe of the franchise.
Whatever the case, it’s hard not to feel skeptical about this given the long history of failed marriages between games and movies, even if… or rather, despite the fact that it is Mass Effect we’re talking about. I’ll guess Comic-Con will be able to shine some light on the project later this month, July 21st through 24th.
