Ubisoft makes next F2P move

Ubisoft has made a fresh acquisition; free-to-play developer Owlient is now under the same roof as Assassin’s Creed, Ghost Recon and many others.

Eating up the 40-strong studio is in line with “the acceleration of Ubisoft’s free-to-play strategy following last year’s launch of Settlers Online, CSI Crime City and Heroes Kingdoms,” notes CEO Yves Guillemot in the announcement, “as well as the recent beta launch of our ambitious title Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Online.”

In the last few years, Ubisoft’s also bought up Massive Entertainment, Nadeo and Quazal in an effort to increase its online presence.
