In a bit of a surprise move, German ratings board, the BPJM, has approved an uncut version of Gears of War 3 for release in the country. Unlike its predecessors, Microsoft will be allowed to sell the game with no restrictions or changes to its contents.
Gears 1 and 2 were categorized as ‘List A’ in the country, which doesn’t make them illegal to sell, but retailers would’ve had to keep copies out of sight and all advertising would’ve been forbidden. As a result, Microsoft chose not to publish the games in Germany.
Different story for Gears 3 though. As Eurogamer reports, the ruling body found no “relevance for a ban,” which is odd considering the game is as brutal and bloody as ever, but who’s complaining?
Gears 3 is out in September.
