Following the decision to move ahead with the free-to-play model, the development focus of Tribes: Ascend has switched to the PC version, Hi-Rez Studios has said.
Announced for both PC and Xbox Live Arcade this March, the developer made the F2P decision in the months that followed and is now working on the microtransaction-supported PC version only, with the XBLA release put on the back-burner.
A future release is not ruled out, however.
“An eventual XBLA version–and even PSN version–is not out of the question but neither will be this year,” a Hi-Rez rep has told GameSpot.
Hi-Rez recently assured the choice in business models won’t result in a pay-to-win scenario.
There are no release dates still, but the latest gameplay video revealed a ‘fall 2011’ launch window.
