Futuremark Games’ zero gravity space shooter Shattered Horizon might be overshadowed by their newly announced space-based game Unstoppable Gorg. The name alone should be reason enough to keep reading.
Unstoppable Gorg is basically a tower defense title with a bit of a twist to it, that being the ability to reposition your defenses after each attack wave, a feature that Futuremark explains as being “a convention defying mechanic that brings new vitality and interaction to the tower defense genre.” The main objective in the game is to stop the “fearsome” alien race known as Gorg from invading, exploiting and destroying our solar system. For that purpose, you will be given access to deploy satellites into orbit around planets, moons and space stations.
“With Unstoppable Gorg we have been inspired by classic sci-fi films to create a game of flying saucers, rubbery aliens, dodgy effects and earnest heroes,” said Jaakko Haapasalo of Futuremark Games. “Unstoppable Gorg builds on the core tower defense mechanics that fans love while shattering the genre’s conventions to provide exciting new experiences.”
With the addition of “glorious 3D graphics,” Unstoppable Gorg is set to pay homage to the 1950’s sci-fi movies on more platforms than just PC, living up to the company’s 2-year-old comment that it would eventually develop for consoles; Xbox Live Arcade and iPad will do their part in defending space as well.
