More rumblings regarding Battlefield 3 not appearing on Steam today.
Sources close to the situation have told MCV that, while EA will offer strong support to other digital distributors in an effort to stand up to Modern Warfare 3, Steam’s out indeed.
Gamestop executives have previously said the shooter won’t appear on the service. Plus, EA’s own quickly-pulled list of digital retailers posted a week ago excluded it as well.
It’s not by choice, though. What it all comes down to, the sources say, are Valve’s policies which prohibit EA to sell post-launch add-on content directly to the consumer.
At the end of the day, the rivalry born out of the situation is seen as beneficial to the industry.
“This is very good for the marketplace,” said a CEO at one European digital distributor. “Valve and EA have always been uneasy bedfellows and this will help level the playing field for other distributors. It is a golden opportunity.”
Battlefield 3 is out in October: the 25th in NA, 28th in EU.
