2K Czech, best known for games such as Mafia and Top Spin 4, has together with Bohemia Interactive (Arma franchise and the original Operation Flashpoint) formed a new studio going by the name of Warhorse. Both studios reside in Prague, Czech Republic and although you’d think starting a new studio in the same city would be asking for competitive trouble, that’s exactly what these people have done.
Warhorse has already made a commitment to creating an RPG, a game which has yet to be officially announced. Open worlds and immersive storytelling is something members of Warhorse are already quite familiar with, and venturing into a new genre is not going to sacrifice that.
“There is a common thread running through our previous games: open worlds, strong storyline and, last but not least, realistic design,” reads the official site. “We can proudly say that the games Mafia and Operation Flashpoint were the vanguard of this approach and millions of players worldwide clearly share our view. Even if our new project is different in many respects, it is a game that is not going to disappoint fans of open realistic worlds and quality stories.”
The veterans running the studio — Daniel Vávra, Martin Klíma, Viktor Bocan and Zbynek Trávnivký — have quite the pedigree making high-quality games so expectations are arguably high. Only time will tell whether or not it’ll all be worth it.
