Following the success it’s seen from selling downloadable add-on content in-store, GameStop’s announced that they’re building on the concept and will offer full digital game releases through their retail outlets.
Just why would anyone wish to purchase a digital release that way? According to GameStop, the approach allows the consumer to use forms of payments not normally seen in digital distribution, including cash, trade-in credits, and gift cards.
The service will be kicked off with next month’s release of Deus Ex: Human Revolution from Eidos Montreal. Another title known to be available through the same means will be EA’s Battlefield 3, which was in passing confirmed by a recent report.
Of course, digital of not, there will be pre-order bonuses. In the case of the Windows version of Human Revolution, those bonuses are:
– A digital version of Deus Ex: Game of the Year Edition and Deus Ex: Invisible War
– The Explosive Mission DLC Pack for in-game use in Deus Ex: Human Revolution
– Double points for GameStop PowerUp Rewards members
– As an added bonus, PowerUp Rewards members who pre-order and purchase Deus Ex: Human Revolution will be entered to win a decked out living room in the Augment Your Living Room Sweepstakes.
