Nintendo’s surprise 3DS price cuts have put no pressure on Sony to do the same for its upcoming PS Vita, the company has said. There is “no need” for a launch price reduction, according to chairman Kaz Hirai.
Chatting with reporters at Sony’s Tokyo HQ recently, Hirai elaborated: “We packed so much into the device and made it very affordable. There is no need to lower the price just because somebody else that happens to be in the video game business decided that they were going to lower their price.”
The device will launch in Japan this year with the date due to be announced at the Tokyo Game Show next month. North America and Europe have to wait until early 2012.
