Sony’s PlayStation 3 has – unsurprisingly – seen a surge in sales after the price of the system was cut at Gamescom last month.
A lot of territories have begun forking out the cash for a shiny new console, not the least of which is Australia, which has seen a staggering 400% increase in sales post-drop. Those figures have been recorded by NPD’s Australian group.
“Australians love not only games, but also the quality home entertainment PS3 provides,” said Michael Ephraim, Managing Director, Sony Computer Entertainment Australia. “Sales are booming because PlayStation 3 is the best device to connect to your TV, at incredible value, to provide the ultimate home entertainment experience.”
A 160GB PS3 will now set you back $349.95 down under, while the 360GB model is priced at $449.95. That’s about a $150 reduction on former prices for both models.
Seems like the war is really on for this holiday season: will Sony or Microsoft come out on top?
