Following reaching the 100,000 downloads mark in less than a week, Crytek’s CryEngine 3 SDK has now, three weeks after release, been downloaded more than 300,000 times.
“It’s great news for us, and it seems like global coverage, not just Europe-heavy,” Crytek co-founder Avni Yerli has told Develop of the success. “It’s being picked up equally across the US, Europe and Asia.”
The engine is available as a free download from mycryengine.com. Users who decide to move forward with a commercial product will have to cut Crytek in with 20%.
“We hope indies will have great ideas and use the engine and we can’t wait to see them make really innovate games,” Yerli adds. “That’s going to be really fun.”
