Big news in the world of Dragon Quest today; Square Enix have confirmed that Dragon Quest X will be hitting both the Wii and Wii U, starting in 2012 with the Wii version. If the Wii U game will see release in the same year is unknown.
This new Quest will be an online RPG that’s also capable of offline play with NPCs. The game will ship on Wii on disc and will make use of USB memory, most likely to support extra content. It’s unlikely the Wii U version will require this, but it will support superior graphics. Andriasang reports that the full title is Dragon Quest X Mezameshi Itsutsu no Shuzoku Online, which translates to The Five Awakening Races Online.
Support for Wii Remotes, Nunchuks, classic controllers and even USB keyboards is included. Gameplay details are rather thin at the moment, but it seems like a Job Class system will take center stage. Players will create their own characters, weapons and accessories. Post-release content is a big focus, too.
Square are also currently looking into 3DS support for the game, possibly taking advantage of the StreetPass feature to transfer characters.
An early screenshot comes from 4Gamer, looking a lot like Dragon Quest VIII on PS2 (which is no bad thing). It’s possible that we’ll find out more about it at TGS next week.
