More than 500 souls at work on Call of Duty

How many people does it take to develop and keep alive the biggest, hottest videogame property? 500 and then some.

VentureBeat (via) has had a chat with Dave Stohl, the vice president for studios at Activision Publishing; at any given time, there are four to five studios working on the franchise.

Right now that count is at five, with Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games currently teaming up for Modern Warfare 3, Beachhead Studios working on the Elite service, DemonWare handling network services, and Treyarch no doubt working on next year’s entry to the series (rumored to be Black Ops 2).

Bottom line, “Activision has said that it has more than 500 developers working on Call of Duty,” the piece says. That’s a lot.
