Tonight the 2011/2012 NFL season kicks off, but the virtual version started last month with the release of EA Sports’ Madden NFL 12. That game has proven mightily successful, according to publisher Electronic Arts.
The publisher claims Madden NFL 12 sold 1.4 million units (across all platforms) during its launch week, which represents a 10% surge over sales of last year’s game. What’s more, EA said digital gross revenue is up a whopping 78%, due in large part to Madden Ultimate Team.
Breaking down its first week success further, EA said some 5.4 million “online connected game sessions” have been played since launch, which is the equivalent to over 10,000 NFL seasons.
