Nintendo dropped the big one at the company’s pre-TGS press conference; Monster Hunter 4 is heading to 3DS.
That’s quite a shock, given that numbered Hunter sequels traditionally appear on consoles with enhanced versions and spin-offs later showing up on handhelds.
A concept trailer accompanied the announcement (below), showing a pretty cinematic battle against a classic monster. Platforming and combat were a big focus (obviously), though we did sense a bit of Nathan Drake in among the crumbling platforms and last-second ledge grabs.
While there’s no word on release just yet, this is a huge deal for a system that’s been struggling in Japan thus far.
