Having launched on a subscription based service earlier in the year, Sony Online Entertainment’s DC Universe Online is going free to play on both PS3 and PC.
A three tiered model is soon to be available to all players, offering Free, Premium and Legendary options. Free players will get access to two characters, all areas and available raids while having to pay for bonus items and DLC.
Premium players are those that have spent $5 or more in-game or on past subscriptions. They’ll have additional character slots, additional inventory slots, and higher cash limits along with access to DLC in-game.
For $14.99 a month you’ll also be able to become a legendary member which nets you all DLC at no extra cost, 15+ character slots, 80 inventory slots and the ability to form leagues.
As IGN reports, SOE claim that this change is not due to numbers of subscribers. No word on when the switch over will happen just yet.
