Diablo III ‘feeling better’ with a controller is sure to be the feather-ruffling quote of the week. But that’s just what we have here.
Among the reasons Blizzard is exploring the possibility of a console version of Diablo III is “because we feel that the controls and the style of the game lend itself to a console,” game director Jay Wilson said while chatting with PC Gamer.
“With some of our early experiments in putting a direct control scheme into the game via a 360-like analogue controller, I’ve been ‘Oh this feels even better, with direct control…'”
Blizzard may even add control pad support to the PC version, eventually: “I can pretty much guarantee that if we decide to do a console version that we will look to support a pad on the PC,” Wilson added. “But initially with release I don’t think we’ll be ready.”
They’re still tiptoeing around it, but the announcement of a console version seems just a matter of time now. Lead designer Josh Mosqueira said last month that the team “is very, very serious about bringing the Diablo III experience to the console.” Couple that with the studio hiring console programmers and all we hear is a ticking clock.
