We rarely get to write about such gratifying news like this one at noon on a Saturday by the end of September, but here you have it. Turns out there will be very little time for Santa Claus festivities this year as EA and BioWare have announced that their upcoming MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic is set for a holiday release this year. December 20th (US) and 22nd (EU) to be more precise.
The announcement was made by BioWare Docs Ray Muzyka and Dr. Greg Zeschuk during their keynote at the 2011 Eurogamer Expo in London today.
“This is an incredible moment for everyone at BioWare and our partners at LucasArts who have dedicated their lives to build this extraordinary game,” expressed Muzyka. “We appreciate the patience from the millions of fans who have been waiting for the game’s release.”
As most of you already know, The Old Republic will be a subscription-based game, with a 30-day trial being included in the package, the likes of which can be extended as follows:
• 1 Month Subscription: $14.99 (£8.99/€12.99)
• 3 Month Subscription: $13.99 per month (one-time charge of $41.97/£25.17/€35.97)
• 6 Month Subscription: $12.99 per month (one-time charge of $77.94/£46.14/€65.94)
Earlier this year, EA claimed that reaching a mark of 500,000 subscribers will make the game “profitable,” as where reaching the 1 million mark would make the game “a great investment.” It’s Star Wars, what could possibly go wrong?
