Microsoft buys up Gunstringer, Splosion Man dev

As the developers behind popular XBLA titles like Splosion Man and the recently-released The Gunstringer, you might have assumed that Twisted Pixel were already a first-party studio for Microsoft.

Well they weren’t, at least until today. The Xbox owner has bought the studio up, meaning you won’t be seeing their stuff on Sony platforms, not that we expected to.

This year alone the developer has churned out both Ms. Splosion Man and the Kinect-dedicated The Gunstringer, both of which have been met with praise from critics, so this was undoubtedly a smart buy. MS Studios boss Phil Spencer agrees: “Twisted Pixel has an incredible track record of innovative, critically acclaimed, and most importantly, fun, games.¬†Microsoft Studios is home to cutting-edge entertainment experiences, and the incredible creativity of the Twisted Pixel team will help drive further innovation around Kinect and Xbox LIVE.”

It’s a safe bet that the studio’s next will be using Kinect in some way, then. But when will we see what the team has got up its sleeve?
