Battlefield 3 online pass confirmed

Not that it comes as any kind of a shock or even a mild surprise anymore, but Battlefield 3 has been confirmed to make use of EA’s Online Pass approach to online play.

A few quick tweets by Alan Kertz, a core gameplay designer on the game, has revealed the news.

The series previous entry, 2010′s Battlefield: Bad Company 2, had a “VIP Pass” which granted access to the shooter’s online components and gave users free DLC in the form of new maps and maps on disc adjusted for new game modes.

In BF3‘s case though, even with the pass, expect to shell out some coin every now and then for expansions. First up will be the Back to Karkand multiplayer add-on, and — based on the one week timed exclusivity deal with Sony — you can count on there being more down the line.
