Jagged Alliance Online developer Cliffhanger Productions has announced it is looking for a publisher and distributor for the next installment of the Shadowrun series, Shadowrun Online. The game is slated to be browser-based with a top-down perspective and is the first in the franchise since the 2007 cross-platform PC/Xbox 360 title.
Shadowrun Online is currently in pre-production, with development starting in the next month, and is being guided by the game’s original creator, Jordan Weisman. His involvement should mean the upcoming game will stay as true as possible to its original cyberpunk setting which has launched four previous games and sold millions of books.
Cliffhanger Productions admits the browser-based Shadowrun Online won’t be a graphical powerhouse, since they want anyone to be able to “access it at any time from their PC, no downloading, no hassle. But that also means we need to limit visuals.” The developer goes on to say they “hope you agree that gameplay is king, so we think the visuals are decent enough.”
