Rovio, the studio responsible for the Angry Birds phenomenon, is right now a privately held company. However, that could change sometime in the near future, as the company is looking into going public.
“We’re not ready to file for an IPO tomorrow,” said chief marketing officer Peter Vesterbacka, “Maybe a year from now.”
Just a couple of months ago, there was speculation that Rovio could be worth as much as $1.2 billion, but Vesterbacka is thinking that that figure might be a little low. About the worth of the company he remarked, “We’re happy with our valuation but we think it’s probably a bit north of that.”
Exactly how much cash Rovio will fetch for its common stock when it does go public is up for debate, but we can’t blame Vesterbacka for thinking big. After all, the Angry Birds brand has grown to encompass much more than just addictive mobile games. It’s going to be interesting to see just how big Rovio can make this thing.
