Batman’s future rests on this week’s reception

Batman: Arkham City will be out across both the US and EU by the end of the week. Judging by the critics’ reactions it’s going to be a huge hit.

Despite the early success, developer Rocksteady isn’t ready to dish out details on a possible follow-up just yet. So says marketing boss Dax Ginn, who has stated to CVG that the team is waiting on the player’s reception of this week’s release to shape a sequel. “What happens next depends on how this game is received,” said Ginn when asked if the next game would travel into the Arkham-less areas of Gotham. “We’re really proud of the work we’ve done and I think taking Batman on to the streets of Gotham is where people wanted him to go after the Asylum.”

“Where we go from here is anyone’s guess. There’s a philosophy at the studio that as long as we keep making awesome things, awesome opportunities will open up to us. But we can’t make any firm decisions because the games industry is a crazy thing. We’re just focused on the here and now and getting to October 31. We’ll see what people think of this first.”

Arkham City was announced just a few short months after its predecessor’s release. Perhaps another VGA reveal will seal the year in gaming with a cherry on top?
