Updated / Rumor: Doom 4 ‘indefinitely postponed’

Update: This rumor is, according to Bethesda VP of PR and Marketing Pete Hines, “complete bollocks.”

He further says: “Games are done when they are done and no title under development at id has been postponed – indefinitely or otherwise.”

Original story: Doom 4‘s development may, may have hit a roadblock.

According to a source claiming to be close to Bethesda, the publisher along with its parent Zenimax have decided to “indefinitely postpone” development of the id Software game.

The news was supposedly delivered during a recent “company wide” meeting in Dallas.

The so-so launch of Rage showed “a serious lack of confidence in the project management at id,” the source further whispers, with “the issues and reviews” around the new release leading to the decision.

id has been working on Doom 4 as a secondary project since 2008 and had plans to transition the Rage team over after launch.

Bummer news if true. Lets put this firmly in the unconfirmed rumor pile for now though.
