Piracy returns to PS3

While this is firmly slotted in the rumor column for now, it seems that pirates are still attempting to chip away at the PlayStation 3’s security system. This time, the efforts aren’t focused on the online portions of the Sony empire, but instead targeting individual console firmware.

It appears device – named the JailBreak 2 – is a USB dongle which, when plugged into the console, subverts the PS3 security measures and permits the system to run unauthorized/copied code. Currently available in Indonesia, it only seems a matter of time until worldwide availability occurs.

If it really exists, that is.
