Surprising absolutely no one, Modern Warfare 3 has smashed day one records for shipping, leaving the previous champion (Black Ops, of course) in the dust.
Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg revealed in an earnings call: ”The record number of pre-orders from Modern Warfare 3 drove the largest day-one shipments in our history, and in the industry’s history.”
He added that more than 1.5 million people queued up for launch at midnight.
“The launch of Modern Warfare 3 was the largest in Activision Blizzard’s history, and our global organisation remains laser-focused on delivering the largest entertainment launch of all time for the third consecutive year and to exceed the record set by Black Ops life-to-date,” added CEO Bobby Kotick.
Expect official sales numbers to continue this trend, whenever we get them.
