It’s not a stretch to say The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was one hotly hyped game, but now we’ve got the statistics to prove just how popular it truly was.
Bethesda owner Zenimax today announced that Skyrim shipped (not sold) 7 million units since its global launch on 11/11/11 across the Xbox 360, PC, and PlayStation 3.
What’s more, Zenimax says that “more than 50% of launch units were sold in the first 48 hours,” meaning Skyrim sold over 3.5 million units in two days. The publisher said it expects a return of $450 million from the launch units, which is quite a staggering figure indeed.
“Without a doubt, this has been our most ambitious project ever,” said Todd Howard, Game Director on Skyrim. “After over three years of development, we’re finally excited to get it into everyone’s hands.”
