Activision vets go social

Two of publishing giant Activision’s former veterans have gone and formed a company with a complicated name: U4iA. Activision Publishing head Dusty Welch and executive producer Chris Archer are behind the venture. Their goal: to deliver hardcore game experiences to the social world.

“Playtime and dollars are starting to migrate from console to casual and/or mobile gaming and a new segment is emerging – the hardcore social gamer,” says Welch.

The studio is currently making a “first-person social” game — a term they’ve trademarked, according to Gamasutra — for 2012. No further details yet.
