With the new Tomb Raider game, Crystal Dynamics is setting out to reboot the franchise, to tell the story of Lara Croft before she became the female treasure-hunting badass we all know today. Parallel to that approach, the franchise will be getting the same treatment on the silver screen.
“Listen, the box office, they weren’t disasters but I find it interesting that the story that we’re telling is really the story before she became Lara Croft, so it is a character piece,” said Graham King, the film’s producer. ”It does have a lot of really great characters, but it’s a lot of action and a lot of fun, and for me, it’s something very different. I’ve not really done a movie like that before, but I really gravitated to rebooting this franchise and we’re going to give it a shot.”
King produced The Departed, Blood Diamond and more recently, Hugo. Coupled with Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, writers of Iron Man, what can possibly go wrong… right?
