Famed head of Team ICO and creator of PS2 masterpieces ICO and Shadow of the Colossus, Fumito Ueda, has left Sony and is working on a freelance basis, Eurogamer rumors. Team ICO’s current project, the much-delayed The Last Guardian, is being worked on under this basis.
Eurogamer cites “japanese video game development sources” in saying that this development is one of the reasons for Guardian‘s long development cycle. Once the game is complete, Ueda hopes to pursue other projects.
The Last Guardian has managed to miss every major trade show this year, despite Sony’s promises that it’s still coming along. If true, does this situation spell doom for the project?
Sony itself hasn’t responded to the rumor, only saying it doesn’t comment on rumor and speculation.
