Xbox 360 sells record numbers during Black Friday week

In a blog update by Xbox Live’s director of programming Larry Hryb, “Major Nelson” lets us known the Xbox 360 performed admirably during the week of Black Friday. In fact, it performed so well that it was the best week in Xbox’s history. Considering its about to be seven years old, it does impress just a little bit.

According to Hryb, the console sold almost a million units in the U.S. last week, of which 800,000 were sold within a timespan of 24 hours. In addition, 750,000 Kinect motion sensors were sold too, standalone and bundled both included; to put things into perspective, that’s almost seven times the amount of less-than-stellar sales total of the sensor in Japan… since launch.

And it would seem Microsoft’s retail partners are just as excited as Microsoft itself.

“We have seen tremendous excitement from customers for our hot holiday gaming offers,” said senior VP and GM of Home Entertainment at Best Buy Chris Homeister. “Xbox 360 was among the best-sellers at Best Buy this Black Friday, and is a testament to the continued popularity of the gaming category this holiday.” Damn right!
