MotorStorm: Apocalypse, despite being the best in the series, had a very rough launch. The Evolution Studios-developed title suffered a huge delay when the Japanese earthquake earlier in the year forced Sony to push it back thanks to the similar themes found within the game. The game never saw release in the country and elsewhere pre-orders were cancelled at major retailers.
Clearly, it was a difficult time for Evolution, one that game director Matt Southern feared “might be the end of the studio”. But, as he told Eurogamer, the company “defended us and protected us and allowed us to experiment”.
The result of keeping the studio alive was MotorStorm RC, which was first shown last week. Evolution may not be gone, but we do wonder if the studio now has a future developing digital over disc-based products.
