NCsoft is the latest MMO house to drink the F2P koolaid; Aion will be making the switch to the free-to-play mode come February, the developer’s announced, though only in Europe apparently.
The reasoning for the move is to give its European player count a little boost.
Gameforge, which will run servers in the region, comments: “In the last few months the lands in Atreia have become more and more deserted.”
“We want to reinvigorate the world of Aion and attract new adventurers to the towns to take to the skies as Daevas.”
New content is on the way, too, with GF’s executive director Alexander Rösner promising to “continue to develop new content and extend [the game].”
