Seems that 2011 was a year of decline for the Japanese videogame market as the industry suffered an 8 percent dip year-on-year.
Famitsu (via) reports that the market was worth ¥454,380m last year. The software sector reportedly fell by 14 percent to ¥274,640m. In contrast the hardware sector gained 2.4 percent, coming to ¥179,740m. Nintendo’s 3DS shifted 4,135,739 units. PSP and PS3 respectively followed with 1,960,177 and 1,467,261 sold. Wii, DS, Vita and 360 all sold under a million units.
With the relatively new Vita now on the market and the Wii U inbound, how will things shape up for the Japanese industry in 2012?
