Not that it comes as any kind of a surprise at all, but Modern Warfare 3 has been crowned the UK’s best-selling title of 2011, according to GFK Chart-Track and UKIE. This means that the Call of Duty franchise has held this particular honor three years in a row now.
Following MW3 are FIFA 12 and Battlefield 3 at #2 and #3, respectively, with Zumba Fitness pulling in at #4. Skyrim was fifth, while sixth and seventh went to Ubisoft creations Just Dance 3 and Assassin’s Creed: Revelations.
LA Noire took #8, Saints Row: The Third #9, and finally Batman: Arkham City #10.
“In a year when overall consumer spending was down, the launch of so many high-quality titles showed that there was still strength in the UK’s boxed-product games market,” UKIE CEO Jo Twist says.
“However, whilst the boxed product market still remains a key revenue stream, digital is where much future growth lies and it is therefore vital that we understand the size of this market. UKIE’s Digital Charts, launching this year, will be a step towards measuring digital revenues. I’d urge all games developers and publishers who want to get involved in creating these charts to join UKIE’s digital group.”
