Next Xbox’s GPU six times more powerful — rumor

New next-gen rumors, yay; two separate reports on the graphical capabilities of Microsoft’s next Xbox say the system will either have a modified ATI Southern Islands 7000 series GPU, as reported by Fudzilla, or something similar to the Radeon HD 6670, as an IGN source has whispered.

Both reports say the GPU will enter mass production by the end of the year. Developers are expected to receive their kits in August.

IGN also notes that “in real terms,” the next-gen Xbox’s “raw graphics processing power is expected to be six times that of the Xbox 360 and will yield 20-percent greater performance than Nintendo’s forthcoming console, the Wii U,” which would make the Wii U a lot more powerful than initially thought.
