With yesterday’s confirmation that Insomniac would be moving on from the Resistance franchise, both the developer and Sony itself have offered comment on the situation.
Ted Price, Insomniac CEO and the man to break the news, recently explained to fans in a video message, saying: “I did want to confirm it face-to-face that we are not moving on with the Resistance franchise. Now, a question we’ve gotten through our forums and through e-mails is ‘why’? Well, we believe that Resistance has reached its logical conclusion in terms of the story we wanted to tell. However, that doesn’t mean the Resistance franchise isn’t continuing.”
And he’s right; the franchise will return this year with Resistance: Burning Skies on PS Vita. Where it goes from there is unknown.
As for the relationship between Sony and Insomniac? A Sony spokesperson told IGN that the company “had a long and positive relationship with Insomniac and wish them the best of success on their new project Overstrike.”
Not that this suggests the two will end the 15 year long relationship that’s been shared since Spyro on the original PlayStation. We’ll just to wait and see what the three team-strong developer is working on other than the multiplatform Overstrike.
