It’s been one heck of a roller coaster ride, but DICE’s modern war first-person shooter Battlefield 3 has done quite well for itself ever since its release back in October 2011. Five, eight, and now ten million copies have been sold across the world and the Back to Karkand DLC has offered more value than would normally be expected of a downloadable content package.
And it would seem neither the developer nor publisher EA have any ideas of slowing things down anytime soon, as reports have them announcing new DLC as early as next week in New York. EA VP of Investor Relations Peter C. Ausnit said as much when asked about any plans to offer expansion packs for both Battlefield 3 and EA’s other heavy hitter, FIFA 12.
“You’re going to hear some announcements from us on Battlefield actually as early as next week in an event we’ve got in New York.”
What content will be thrown into the package is as of yet unknown, but rumors suggest it would be an all American DLC, which would include new maps based on Miami, New Jersey, San Francisco and New York. Considering the announcement is being made in the latter, there could be some validity to this rumor. But being exactly that, we’re not holding our breath; next week will tell the truth.
