Updated: Square Enix’s Sleeping Dogs revealed, possibly reskinned True Crime: Hong Kong

Update: Square’s confirmed the game for a 2012 launch. Catch a new live-action trailer and some official words below.

Here’s the what to expect from the actual game: “Offering players an island packed with action, every street corner, market stall, harbor dock or city skyscraper can become an opportunity for intense shoot-outs, adrenaline-fuelled street races and intense, brutal martial arts combat. Featuring one of the most intuitive and imaginative combat systems, Sleeping Dogs empowers players to perform an extensive set of martial arts moves, singlehandedly taking on numerous opponents. Players perform bone-crunching kicks and combos, vicious counters and a cinematic set of environmental takedowns making use of countless real-world items from circular saws to phone booths, incinerators to refrigerator doors.”

Original story: Future Shop and the Destination PlayStation event has already given us news of LittleBigPlanet Karting this week, but it looks like another title has been announced at the event.

According to one of the online retailer’s Twitter posts, Square Enix announced a game named Sleeping Dogs for an August release on PS3, 360 and PC. A photo of a promotional poster was also put up online (below) and, it looks a lot like True Crime: Hong Kong, the game that Enix picked up after Activision ditched it a while back.

If it is indeed the reskinned version of Hong Kong, then this is a title developed by United Front Games, more recently responsible for Modnation Racers.

If Square is ready to show it off to retailers then hopefully a reveal to actual gamers isn’t far off.
