HTC could be about to receive Sony’s PlayStation certification for their range of smartphones.
This would be first time that PlayStation certification has been available on a non-Sony platform, and would follow HTC’s recent partnership with Beats Audio.
With devices that already support it, such as the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, trailing behind other Android handsets, a partnership with HTC would boost the PlayStation Suite’s profile, while being able to provide their users with PSOne classics would give HTC with some ammunition in its bid to become Android’s top dog.
HTC have so far declined to comment on the speculation, but an anonymous source has confirmed to Pocket-Lint that HTC will obtain certification by the second half of the year.
The PlayStation Suite is Sony’s attempt to combat the threat posed by the increasing popularity of mobile games by providing mobile users access to classic console titles.
