The first casualty of Game Group’s recent financial woes have been revealed – the company is to close down online retailer GamePlay.
GAME bought up the retailer back in 2004 but has since done little with it. Users will now be redirected to GameStation.co.uk, the online store from GG’s other major retailer chain.
The company is also set to close down 35 stores in accordance with its plans to reduce the number of outlets to 550 by holiday 2013. There are currently 610 GAME and GameStation retailers in the UK.
In brighter news, the company will upgrade its in-store IT systems next month. These updates will fully connect the retailers with the online services GAME provides. That should open the gate for things like click and collect.
