Aion, the soon-to-be formerly subscription-based MMO developed by NCsoft, will follow the footsteps of so many before it and go free-to-play in Europe on February 28th. As described by the press release, the change will occur “simultaneously for the German, French and English language versions.” As players, none will have to worry too much during the make-over.
However, good to know would be the fact that current subscribers with any play time left who transfers the account to the Gameforge servers before the 27th will receive a “premium currency” voucher, worthy of six Coins (which is said currency) per game day left or available in their account as compensation. These coins can, after February 28th, be spent as the owner sees fit.
“The response we received from the beta players on our free-to-play model was fantastic,” according to Volker Boenigk and Andreas Günter, executive product director and product director for Aion, respectively. “We can’t wait for the launch so that we can finally offer the game to a broader gaming audience. In the upcoming months our focus will be on working on update 3.0, which we will be launching in Europe in the spring.”
